Victoria University Kampala under the faculty of health sciences offers an assortment of degree courses that address some of the key health issues affecting Ugandans.

These include Bachelor of Nursing Sciences, Bachelor of Midwifery Science, Bachelor of Environmental Health Science, Bachelor of Science In Nutrition and Dietetics, Bachelor of Nursing Sciences and Bachelor Of Science In Public Health.

However if you don’t qualify to undertake of these degree courses, we have compiled these short courses which are offered by Victoria University to kick-start your career in the health services. 

Certificate In HSE Management

The course gives an introduction to the health, safety and environ-mental challenges encountered in the oil and gas industry. 

It  provides  an  insight  into  the  main  drivers  of  the  regulatory  frame-work that govern compliance in this sector and their importance in Protecting people, assets and the environment.

Participants will study the main environmental impacts of the oil and gas cycle, from exploration to abandonment/decommissioning and develop an appreciation of the key functions of environmental management frameworks.

Attention will also be paid to the development and application of environmental and health management systems as an integral parts of the oil and gas business frameworks

Comprehensive Management Of STI’S And HIV

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STIs) and HIV/AIDS are among the top ten leading causes of morbidity and mortality among adults of reproductive age in Uganda.

This course will help improve diagnostic and patient management skills of clinicians and nurses.It will also equip public health experts with the required knowledge and skills in STI/HIV/AIDS projects/program management.

Public Health In Complex Emergencies

The world is engulfed in unending stream of conflicts and natural disasters including the biggest threat of climate change.These man made and natural disasters destroy existing healthcare system in the affected areas resulting to enormous negative impact on population health.

This course will equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills on effective prioritization, management of health interventions that matter during emergencies.

Duration 2 Weeks 

Public Health Surveillance And Epidemic /Outbreak Management

Public health surveillance is the continuous, systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of health-related data needed for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practice.

The information generated helps;

  • Serves as an early warning system for impending public health emergencies;
  • Documents the impact of an intervention, or track progress towards specified goals; and
  • Monitor and clarify the epidemiology of health problems, to allow priorities to be set and to inform public health policy and strategies.

Participants will be equipped with theoretical surveillance knowledge and practical data analysis, interpretation and application of surveillance information. 

Duration 2 Weeks 

Nutrition Surveys Planning, Management, Data Analysis  

This course will cover all relevant issues related to nutrition survey. It will cover planning and management of survey activities and resources, design of nutrition survey questionnaire, nutrition data analysis using ENA software and survey results dissemination to all stakeholders.

ENA (Emergency Nutrition Assessment) software is a user-friendly analytical program recommended by SMART and widely used non-governmental organizations for analysis of nutrition surveys.

Participants of this course will acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills and become independent users of the software and lead conduct and dissemination of results of nutrition surveys that are most frequently used by humanitarian organizations for needs assessment and evaluation of community based malnutrition treatment and prevention interventions.

Public Health Nutrition

Malnutrition is responsible for approximately 45% of deaths among children under five years globally and especially in developing countries. Nutritionists, public health nutritionist, clinicians and nurses that focus or have interest in improving nutritional status of susceptible groups and the general population in affected or vulnerable communities and societies will gain essential knowledge and skills for effective planning, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition interventions.

Emphasis will be placed on widely adapted community based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) methodology and promotion of infant and young child feeding practices (IYCF) using the mother care group model.
